The concepts driving the sculpture ‘Hug’ are the ideas of community, support, safety and refuge. Two C-shaped components, which are made to interlock to portray an abstract hug, are designed for gravity to do most of the work to achieve the desired effect. ‘Hug’ is designed in such a way that the identical “arms” must support each other structurally to form the sculpture; They hold up each others’ weights to build a stable assembly. This in turn represents the idea of how we need to support one another and work together to form a happy and healthy community.
